Into Thin Air
"After looking at the Alps, I felt that my mind had been stretched beyond the limits of its elasticity, and fitted so loosely on my old ideas of space that I had to spread these to fit it." - Unknown
There is something about alpine air that makes you feel a little better about life. It especially helped when my legs (and lungs) were approaching the end of a 16km trek across the Schynige Platte, a large mountainous section in the Bernese Oberland. Despite the incredible altitude difference from my regular hikes back home, it was the clean crispness of each tired breath that reminded me of how spectacular this part of Switzerland is. The beauty --- of wide-open spaces, air free of urban pollutants, and pristine views of one of the world’s most magnificent mountain ranges --- was a constant reminder of how nature in its purest form can bring out the adventure in us all.
